Our guest teachers:
Emma Johnson earned an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program in 2009. Her essays have appeared in numerous literary magazines.. She ghostwrites and edits for The Teaching Company, has served as artistic director for several dance companies in the U.S., created a yoga program for homeless teens, and currently teaches Pilates, Yoga, and Ballet at the Multnomah Athletic Club and online.
Joseph Wyatt began dancing professionally as a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem. He became a lead dancer and ballet master. Along with his wife Elena Carter, he danced in Mexico City as principal dancer in La Compañia Nacional de Danza. Later he moved to the Northwest and taught at Jefferson High School and was a principal dancer with Pacific Ballet Theatre and Oregon Ballet Theatre. Students can see Joe and his wife on Youtube, “Grand Pas Classique J & E.”
Simone Wulfhorst graduated in 2020 from the esteemed Boston Conservatory with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. She is currently living and dancing in Portland Oregon, but relocating to the Gorge in the spring of 2022.. Trained extensively in ballet and contemporary dance, she is so excited to share her love of movement with the CGDA students. Expect a unique contemporary dance class mixing technique and improvisation to find your groove!
Melissa Vovou began her dance training in Hood River and went on to dance professionally in the Bay Area with various regional companies. Then joined Carnival Cruise Lines. She began practicing Pilates at the age of 15 and continued through her dance career. Melissa gained her classical Pilates instructor certification in Oregon and New York in 2007. She loves teaching her clients and students to tune into their bodies, so they can enjoy all forms of movement.
Giselle Kennedy Lord was formally on faculty at CGDA, teaching lyrical. She stepped away in 2021 for a travel adventure with her husband and dog, across the southwest and Mexico. She has recently returned to the Northwest and is looking for a home in Portland. She is thrilled to be back at CGDA as a beloved guest teacher, offering students her intelligent style of dance and genuine happiness!
